Meet Wilbur
There are dogs that make you smile the moment you meet them, and that is Wilbur.
The second he starts walking with his wonderfully unique little stride, people can't help themselves. They smile. They laugh. They point him out to everyone nearby. Wilbur, of course, has no idea why everyone's grinning. He's just busy enjoying life.
Before coming to Made a Promise Rescue, Wilbur was found abandoned outside. Someone noticed him sitting in the same spot after a major thunderstorm had rolled through the night before. He was underweight, missing patches of hair, and wore the biggest, saddest eyes as if he had never truly known what it felt like to be loved.
Thankfully, those days are behind him.
The Promise We Made to Wilbur
When Wilbur came to Made a Promise Rescue, we made him one promise.
We would spend every day showing him the love, patience, and kindness he had been missing for far too long. We couldn't erase his past, but we could make sure the rest of his story looked very different.

Personality
Wilbur is goofy, joyful, and impossible not to love.
Despite everything he's been through, he greets life with a happy heart and an enthusiasm that's contagious. His unique little walk has become one of his most lovable qualities. While it's the result of genetics, Wilbur wears it proudly, and it brings smiles to nearly everyone who meets him.
More than anything, Wilbur loves being loved. Give him affection, kind words, and a little attention, and you'll have a best friend for life.
In the Home
Wilbur is finally getting the chance to simply be a dog. After overcoming hurdle after hurdle, he's healthy, happy, and discovering what it means to feel safe. His foster home has given him the opportunity to relax, enjoy life, and let his joyful personality shine.
With Other Dogs
Wilbur should do well with other respectful dogs. Because he hasn't had much opportunity to learn normal dog social skills, he may occasionally feel overwhelmed, but his gentle nature makes us think he'd do well with patient canine companions who allow him to build confidence at his own pace.
With People
Wilbur loves people and happily soaks up every bit of affection they're willing to give. Seeing him now, it's hard to imagine this is the same scared dog who sat outside alone after a thunderstorm. Today, his eyes are brighter, his tail is happier, and you can truly see how safe he feels.
With Kids
We think Wilbur would do well with gentle, respectful children who understand that he isn't built for roughhousing.
With Cats
We haven't had the opportunity to see Wilbur around cats or other small animals.
Training & Care
Wilbur has only recently gotten the chance to feel healthy, so he's just beginning to learn all the things many dogs are taught as puppies.
He'll need a family that's patient with potty training, willing to teach him the basics, and understands that he may never have lived inside a home before.
Wilbur also has some ongoing medical considerations. He has skin allergies and a unique body structure that causes him to scrape his paws simply while walking. He's a little mismatched in the sweetest possible way, and while those quirks may require some extra care, they certainly don't stop him from enjoying life.
Ideal Home
Wilbur deserves a home overflowing with love. Someone who sees his quirky little walk, his resilient spirit, and his enormous heart, and realizes they're looking at something truly special.
A Note from the Foster
The best way to describe Wilbur is joyful. You can actually see that he knows he's safe now. Watching him walk around with his goofy little stride, soaking up affection and simply enjoying life, is enough to brighten anyone's day.
Promise Pup Highlight
Wilbur's funny little walk might be what catches your attention, but it's his joyful spirit and resilient heart that you'll remember long after you've met him.
The Promise Moving Forward
We promise Wilbur that the rest of his life will be filled with the love, safety, patience, and kindness he always deserved.
We'll keep that promise until the day he finally goes home.
