Meet Sage

Sage has mastered the art of balance.

She's independent without being distant, affectionate without being needy, and perfectly happy entertaining herself until it's time to curl up on the couch near the people she loves.

She's the kind of dog who makes herself right at home, and before long, you'll wonder how the house ever felt complete without her.

Before coming to Made a Promise Rescue, Sage arrived at the shelter as a stray and was never reclaimed.

Today, she's recovering from a urinary tract infection and a yeast infection in her ears, settling into foster care, and getting the chance to simply enjoy being someone's dog.

The Promise We Made to Sage

When Sage came to Made a Promise Rescue, we made her one promise.

She would always have a safe place to simply be her loving self.

Personality

Sage is a sweet, easygoing girl who enjoys being part of the family while also appreciating her own space.

She's perfectly content entertaining herself with a tough chew bone or turning a rope toy into confetti in record time. Once she's finished playing, you'll usually find her curled up in her favorite spot on the couch, occasionally choosing a spot close to her foster parents instead.

She also takes her neighborhood watch responsibilities very seriously. Squirrels, passing dogs, and anything happening outside are all carefully monitored before she decides her work is done and it's time for another nap.

Around mealtime, Sage's softer side comes out. She'll patiently sit and look up with the sweetest puppy, or maybe even baby seal, eyes you've ever seen.

In the Home

Sage has settled beautifully into her foster home and thrives on routine.

Her kennel is one of her favorite places. It's her safe space, and she happily heads inside when her foster parents leave the house or when it's time for bed. In fact, she often puts herself to bed each night, curling up with her blankets without being asked.

She's also wonderful about communicating when she needs to go outside, quietly standing by the door and gently pawing at it.

Sage is currently living with two adult foster parents and no other pets, and she's adjusted seamlessly to a calm, predictable home.

With Other Dogs

Sage has not lived with other dogs in her foster home.

From what we've been told, she can be selective with other dogs and seems happiest being the queen of the castle. She enjoys having her people to herself and would thrive as the only dog in the home.

With People

Sage loves meeting new people.

Visitors are greeted with an enthusiastic wiggly butt, a happy smile, and plenty of excitement. Once everyone has said hello, she settles down quickly and is perfectly content relaxing nearby without constantly asking for attention.

With Kids

Sage has not had the opportunity to regularly interact with children.

Based on her calm, affectionate personality, we think she could do well with respectful children who understand a dog's space. At this time, we believe children 10 and older would likely be the best fit.

With Cats

Sage is not recommended for a home with cats or other small animals due to her prey drive.

Training & Care

Sage is an incredibly well mannered girl with an excellent training foundation.

She patiently waits for her release cue before eating, learned her new name within just a couple of days, and responds very well to redirection. Her foster parents often joke that she understands everything they say.

Like many dogs, she's still working on ignoring people food. If dinner smells especially good, she may politely whine and occasionally offer a bark in hopes of earning a bite. Her foster parents consistently ignore the behavior, and Sage continues learning that begging doesn't pay off.

Ideal Home

Sage would thrive in a calm home where she can be the queen of the castle.

She'd love a family that appreciates a dog who enjoys both companionship and independence. Someone who understands that while Sage loves being included, she's also perfectly content relaxing with a favorite chew toy or enjoying a quiet afternoon on the couch.

She'd also enjoy regular walks, continued positive training, and a family who appreciates all of the little things that make her special.

A Note from the Foster

Sage has an incredible ability to settle into new environments.

She adapted to foster care almost immediately, quickly learned her new name, and has been an absolute joy to live with. She's smart, responsive, adaptable, and has a calm confidence that makes her an easy companion.

Promise Pup Highlight

Between her beautiful coloring, blocky head, giant hazel eyes, and signature wiggly greetings, Sage has a way of winning people over almost instantly.

The Promise Moving Forward

We promise Sage that she will always have a safe place to land, people who love her, and a family who appreciates everything that makes her special.

We'll keep that promise until the day she finally goes home.
