Meet Puck
Puck is a sweet, sensitive boy who is still figuring out that the world doesn't have to feel quite so scary. He approaches new things cautiously and pays close attention to everything happening around him, but give him some encouragement and time to feel safe, and you'll start to see him relax. As he gets comfortable with someone, his shy exterior begins to fade and the loving dog underneath starts to come through.
We don't know much about Puck's life before he landed in a large city shelter, but when we first met him, he seemed relieved just to find a little peace. Once he was away from all the noise and commotion, he calmly splooted out on the floor and relaxed. It was such a simple moment, but it told us a lot about what this boy needed.
The Promise We Made to Puck
We promised Puck that he doesn't have to be scared to be a dog.
He doesn't have to apologize for existing or worry about making a mistake. He can play. He can be goofy. He can take up space. He can slowly figure out who he is when he isn't worried about everything happening around him.
We'll keep giving him the time and encouragement to learn that until he believes it too.

Personality
Puck is incredibly sweet natured and loving, but he needs a little time before you get to see all of him. New situations can make him nervous, and he's very aware of what's happening around him. Encouragement from someone he trusts helps him feel more secure, and as those nerves settle, we're beginning to see small pieces of his playful spirit peek through.
He's still new to foster care, so we're getting to know him right alongside him getting to know us. What we already know is that Puck has a very gentle way about him and forms connections as he begins to trust. There's a lot more personality underneath those cautious eyes, and we're excited to watch it continue to emerge.
In the Home
Puck is settling into his foster home and learning a new routine. He does well walking on leash, although he's often very concerned with what's happening in the world around him. With encouragement and reassurance, he's able to feel safer and keep moving.
He does pretty well in his kennel and sleeps there overnight as well as while his foster is at work..
With Other Dogs
Puck currently has a canine roommate and seems to enjoy having another dog around. They aren't freely interacting yet because his foster is taking introductions slowly, but Puck has been friendly and the interactions so far make us think he could potentially do well living with another dog.
As we continue getting to know him, we'll learn more about what type of canine companion would be the best match.
With People
Puck is friendly and loving, but he can be shy when he's getting to know someone. He isn't the dog who necessarily walks into a new situation completely confident. He needs a little time to understand that he's safe.
Once that happens, he begins to blossom. The more comfortable he becomes, the more affection and personality he allows you to see.
With Kids
We haven't had the opportunity to see Puck around children, so we don't yet know what type of home with kids would be the right fit for him.
With Cats and Small Animals
We haven't had the opportunity to see Puck around cats or other small animals.
Training & Care
Puck knows "sit," walks nicely on leash, and is seems to be potty trained for the most part. He does well with his kennel routine both overnight and while his foster is away.
For Puck, training will be about more than learning commands. Positive training and new experiences at a pace he's comfortable with can also help him continue building confidence. He's already shown that encouragement from his people helps him feel safer when something makes him uncertain.
Ideal Home
Puck needs a home that will give him time to get comfortable rather than expecting him to walk through the door and immediately have everything figured out. A patient family willing to help build his confidence and let his personality emerge at his own pace would give him exactly what he needs.
We're already seeing little pieces of his playful side come through the nerves. With time, consistency, and someone he trusts beside him, we think there's so much more of Puck still waiting to come out.
A Note from the Foster
Puck is just an incredibly sweet boy. One of the things that sticks with us most is seeing him leave the environment of a big shelter, find a quiet place, and simply sploot out on the floor. He didn't need to do anything or be anything in that moment. He could just relax.
That's what we want more of for him.
Promise Pup Highlight
Underneath Puck's cautious exterior is a loving, playful spirit that we're starting to see a little more of as he realizes he's safe.
The Promise Moving Forward
We promised Puck that he doesn't have to be scared to be a dog, and we're going to keep showing him that.
More than anything, we promise to find him someone who will make him family, cherish him for the rest of his life, and give him all the time he needs to become completely comfortable being Puck.
