Meet Pepper

Pepper is the kind of dog who keeps unfolding in the most beautiful ways. As she heals, more of her personality shines through each day and what we are discovering is a very sweet, very loving girl who simply wants to be close to her people.

The promise we made to Pepper

When Pepper entered our program, we made her a promise that she would never be let down by her family again. From here on out, she will only know love, comfort, and consistency for the rest of her life.

Dog Friendly: Yes, mostly neutral

People Friendly: Very sweet and loving

Kid Friendly: Unknown

Cat Friendly: No

Personality

Pepper is very much a Velcro girl. She loves being around her people and will happily follow you from room to room. At the same time, she is perfectly content to nap in her crate while you are away. She is growing more playful and curious by the day. While she is still rebuilding some confidence, especially outside, she is overall a friendly and fairly balanced dog who just wants to feel secure.

In the Home

Pepper is currently living in a foster home with two adults and one older male dog. She is crated at night and when her foster parents are at work and does great, even during full work days. She goes into her crate easily and settles well.

She goes out into a fenced backyard several times a day and has not had any accidents since her first week in foster care. She rides well in the car and has not shown any food aggression or resource guarding. Meals are fed separately, but she has been calm when food is present in the same room.

With Other Dogs

Pepper has been mostly neutral with the resident dog. She has tried to initiate play, though she can be a little pushy and is still learning good play manners. If placed with another dog, it should be a patient and tolerant companion who can help model appropriate play. She would also do very well as an only dog soaking up all the attention.

With People

Pepper has been very sweet and loving with everyone she has met. She can get excited and is working on not jumping up when greeting people, but her enthusiasm comes from a place of joy. She truly enjoys human connection.

With Kids

Her personality with kids is currently unknown as she has not been around them. She has not shown rough play, mouthing, or guarding behaviors, so with proper supervision and respectful interactions, older children may be a good fit.

Training and Care

Pepper is crate trained and potty trained. She is learning basic commands and working on calmer greetings. Leash walking is a current focus. She can be reactive and appears stressed or anxious on leash, so her foster family is taking it slow with short walks and positive reinforcement.

She has an extremely high prey drive and will chase small animals in the yard and on leash. Because of this, she should not live with cats or small animals. Even with a fenced yard, supervision is important. She has already attempted to jump a six foot fence and may be able to clear a shorter one.

She can be vocal, barking at things outside or giving the cutest excited awoos when she is happy.

Ideal Home

Pepper would likely do best in a house rather than an apartment due to her vocal tendencies and leash reactivity. A fenced backyard would be ideal, with supervision during outdoor time.

She could thrive as an only dog or with a calm, tolerant dog friend. A home without small animals is a must. Above all, she needs consistency, patience, and people who are committed to continuing her confidence building journey.

A Note from the Foster

Pepper is really just so sweet. She is such a cuddler and truly loves being close. Watching her grow more confident each week has been incredibly rewarding.

Promise Pup Highlight

Her cuddly nature is hard to resist. Pepper wants to be near you, leaning into you, resting her head on you, reminding you that you are her safe place.

The Promise Moving Forward

We promised Pepper that she would never be let down again. The next chapter of her life will be filled with love and comfort.

If you are ready to be someone’s safe place, Pepper is ready to be your most loyal companion. A promise was made, and we intend to keep it. 🐾
