Meet Lucy

Lucy came to us after a house fire changed everything around her. She had been living in a home with multiple other dogs when police removed them from the property. We don’t know all the details of the life she had before that day, but we do know that Lucy arrived needing safety, patience, and the chance to figure out the world at her own pace.

And there is a whole lot of Lucy to discover.

She is goofy, social, curious, playful, and incredibly affectionate. She can go from a burst of zoomies to lovable potato surprisingly quickly, and somewhere in between she’ll probably find a way to make you laugh. Lucy has more facial expressions than some people, and whether it’s a look, a wiggle, or a perfectly timed dramatic sigh, she has a way of making sure you know exactly how she feels.

The Promise We Made to Lucy

We promised Lucy that she would be safe. That we would be patient with the things that scare her and never expect her to understand this big world all at once. Most importantly, we promised to celebrate every brave step she takes along the way.

Personality

Lucy really is the full package. She’s endlessly lovable, naturally social, delightfully curious, and always ready to be included. She loves attention and is more than happy to be the center of it.

She also has a wonderfully goofy side. Lucy’s bursts of energy can send her zooming around before she settles right back down into snuggle mode. She’s playful without needing to be constantly on the go and seems equally happy being silly or soaking up affection from her people.

Then there are the expressions. Lucy has an incredible ability to communicate without saying a word. Her face seems to have an opinion about everything, and getting to know all the different versions of Lucy is part of the fun of loving her.

In the Home

Lucy starts her mornings ready to go. She heads outside for a potty break and some zoomies, usually follows that with a few celebratory spins inside, and then knows exactly what comes next. She sits and waits for breakfast.

During the day, she balances activity with downtime in her kennel. Her kennel has become a safe place for her, and at night she gets to choose what sounds best. Sometimes that means curling up in bed for snuggles, and other nights she chooses her kennel and settles in for a comfortable night's sleep.

She is still working on potty training, so maintaining a consistent routine will be important as she continues learning.

With People

Lucy is a serious people lover. Attention is always welcome, and she has plenty of patience when that attention involves being fussed over.

Her human foster sister discovered just how far that patience goes. Lucy has happily participated in full glam sessions complete with makeup and accessories and apparently decided that being pampered is an excellent use of her time. She'll sit there soaking it all in as long as it means someone is doting on her.

Lucy loves being close to her people and seems happiest when she feels included in whatever they're doing.

With Kids

Lucy has done well with kids and is patient with all the attention that can come with them. Cuddles, costumes, and pampering are all perfectly acceptable activities as far as she's concerned.

Her enthusiasm is the bigger consideration. Lucy doesn't always realize her size, and when the zoomies hit, there's a lot of Lucy moving at once. Families with smaller children will need to keep that in mind and supervise accordingly.

With Other Dogs

Lucy seems to approach other dogs assuming there's a potential friendship waiting to happen. She's social and friendly and has lived in a home with multiple dogs in the past.

With Cats and Small Animals

We haven't had the opportunity to see Lucy around cats or other small animals, so we don't yet know what the right fit would be for her.

Training & Care

Lucy has mastered the basic commands “sit” and “stay” and is continuing to work on her leash skills and potty training.

Leash walking has an interesting Lucy twist. When she's at home, she isn't particularly interested in leaving the driveway on foot. Put her in the car, however, and she's ready for an adventure. Lucy loves car rides, and once she arrives somewhere new, she's happy to get out and walk on leash. She does still pull some, but she's making progress and will benefit from continued patient training.

Helping Lucy build confidence is just as important as teaching commands. There are still things in the world she's unsure about, and giving her positive experiences without rushing her will help her continue becoming braver.

Ideal Home

Lucy's ideal family will appreciate both sides of her personality. They'll enjoy the bursts of zoomies and silliness just as much as the cuddly potato that appears when she's finished.

She needs people who will continue helping her explore the world at a pace that feels safe, while giving her the structure and training she still needs. In return, they're getting a dog who loves deeply, makes people laugh, and has absolutely no objection to being thoroughly spoiled.

A Note from the Foster

There really isn't another dog quite like Lucy. She doesn't just have a personality, she has an entire collection of them.

She can be goofy, dramatic, curious, cuddly, playful, expressive, and completely ridiculous, sometimes within the same five minutes. Add in her willingness to sit through a full makeover with her human foster sister, and it's pretty clear that life with Lucy is rarely boring.

Promise Pup Highlight

Lucy may be one of the most expressive dogs we've ever met. Every look, wiggle, spin, and dramatic sigh seems to tell its own little story.

And somehow, the lovable potato who survived a house fire has also become a girl who happily gets dressed up and pampered like it's exactly what she was always meant to be doing.

The Promise Moving Forward

We promise Lucy that she will always have a safe place to land and people willing to be patient with the things she's still figuring out. She'll have room to explore, opportunities to become braver, and the freedom to be her goofy self without being afraid of getting something wrong.

We'll keep celebrating every step forward until we find the family who gets to spend the rest of her life doing the same.
