Meet Hermie

Hermie is a big, lovable goofball who doesn't need a packed schedule to have a good day. Give him a comfy place to lounge, some toys, interesting people to watch, and preferably another dog to play with, and he's pretty content with life.

He came into the shelter as a stray, so we don't know what his life looked like before that. What we've learned since he's been in foster care is that Hermie is an easygoing, affectionate guy with a silly personality and a whole lot of love to give.

The Promise We Made to Hermie

We may not know where Hermie came from or how he ended up on his own, but we know where we want his story to go from here. He deserves a family, a comfortable place to land, and people who love him for the big goofy dog he is.

Personality

Hermie is sweet, goofy, and pretty low maintenance. There may not always be a whole lot going on behind that adorable face, but that's part of his charm. He's perfectly happy hanging out and watching the world go by until something catches his attention and it's time to investigate.

He can be a little shy when he first meets someone, but that doesn't tend to last very long. Give him a little time and suddenly he's in your lap, tail wagging, completely comfortable with his newest friend.

Hermie also loves carrying things around in his mouth. What he's carrying isn't necessarily important. Apparently, sometimes you just need to have something with you.

In the Home

Hermie has settled into a pretty easy routine in his foster home. His mornings start with a short walk to potty, followed by breakfast and, when there's time, a play session with the resident dog. After that, he's perfectly content heading into his crate and sleeping while his foster is away.

He's comfortable being crated when no one is home and doesn't need constant activity to keep himself occupied. He's still working on potty training, so he'll need continued consistency with that routine in his next home.

With Other Dogs

Hermie loves other dogs and really enjoys having the opportunity to play. His play style can be pretty enthusiastic, but he also listens when another dog corrects him and lets him know he's doing too much.

Based on how much he enjoys canine company, a home with another compatible dog could be a great fit for him.

With People

Hermie can initially be a little shy with someone new, but once he's comfortable, that big goofy personality comes right out. Before long, he's climbing into your lap and wagging his tail.

He enjoys being around people without needing to be constantly entertained. Sometimes he's happy just lounging nearby and keeping an eye on whatever everyone else is doing.

With Kids

We haven't had enough experience with Hermie around children to know exactly what his best fit would be. He can be mouthy during interaction, not in a mean way, but enough that supervision would be important.

A household with older children may ultimately be the better fit for him.

With Cats and Small Animals

We haven't had the opportunity to see Hermie around cats or other small animals.

Training & Care

Hermie does well in his crate and is comfortable spending time there when his foster isn't home. He's currently working on potty training and will need someone willing to continue helping him build that routine.

He's also apparently capable of walking himself if necessary. Hand Hermie his leash and he can take it from there. Whether he knows where everyone is going is another question entirely.

Ideal Home

Hermie is pretty adaptable when it comes to the type of home he needs. An apartment or house could both work for him because he doesn't require constant activity to be happy.

He would especially enjoy a home with another compatible dog since he loves canine companionship and playtime. A somewhat older household may be the best fit given his mouthiness, but overall, Hermie is looking for something pretty simple: people to love, a dog friend to play with, toys to carry around, and a comfortable place to relax when the fun is over.

A Note from the Foster

Hermie really doesn't ask for much. He's happy to play with his dog friend, carry random things around in his mouth, watch his people, and then sleep the day away in his crate.

And if you're busy, don't worry. Apparently he can even hold his own leash.

Promise Pup Highlight

Hermie is equal parts lounging buddy and goofy playmate. He'll happily play hard with another dog and then spend the rest of the day doing absolutely nothing.

Preferably while carrying something around in his mouth.

The Promise Moving Forward

Hermie came into the shelter as a stray, but being on his own isn't where his story ends. We'll find him a family that appreciates his goofy personality, gives him all the love he deserves, and makes sure he always has a comfortable place to land.
